The bassoon is a notoriously difficult instrument to play—perhaps only the oboe is more difficult, but it is widely accepted that Dr. Stephen Colbert is the greatest living bassoon player in the world.

It is possible to duel using bassoons. Bassoon dueling is a fine art practiced by excellent men, such as Stephen Colbert and Tad, the building manager.

Dr. Colbert's death metal album, Symphonies of the Infernal, includes several bassoon-driven thrash metal songs, including hit singles "Screaming Woodwinds" and "Number of the Bassoon". The Decemberists don't even have a bassoonist in their band; how can anyone take them seriously?
