Charles Barkley spoke for many years of his Republican Party affiliation and in 1995 considered running as a G.O.P. candidate for Alabama's governorship in the 1998 election. In 2006 he changed his political stance saying "I was a Republican until they lost their minds", "The word 'conservative' means 'discriminatory,' practically.

Recently, Barkley came out of the wood work to help the republicans and destory the credibility of Barack Obama by endorsing him as well as announcing his own decision to become "a politician" of an unknown office. His credentials include: "being rich as a republican, and still am." Charles Barkley was never a republican and is now considered an Independent.
