James behaved badly throughout the interview, implying or outright stating more than once that Our Glorious Stephen was a bane on American cultural and intellectual development, rather than offering the more accurate acknowledgment of Stephen as "a sunburst of emotion in a time darkened by reason." James was so obnoxious that he had to be not only nailed but properly smacked down by Stephen on several occasions, though unfortunately, these smackdowns did not incorporate use of James's extremely heavy, extremely inane book.
