Customers pulling into a gas station (circa 1950's America) would have to yell to get the grease monkey off his lazy ass just so they could pay 40 cents for the privilege of having a C-student employed and not in jail or roaming wildly on the streets.

The most effective cry was "fill her up" because it reminded the grease monkey of family reunions.

In the late 20th century and early 21st century Americans were running short of traditional conservative ideology, necessitating a "fill up" for their values tanks.

Republicans responded with calls for fewer gay marriages and more Christians.

Liberals responded with more abortion and less dependence on foreign oil.

Fill 'Er Up was The Wørd on the May 11, 2006 edition of "The Colbert Report".
