G. Gordon Liddy was a loyal plumber for the Nixon administration. While doing some late-night renovations on the waterworks of the Democratic Party offices at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., Liddy was asked to help the police with their investigation of a break-in at the hotel.
