Goodnight is what a host says to his guests when they don't bring wine.

Stephen said it on March 13, 2007 at the very end of "The Colbert Report" to remind people the show was over and it was time for his guests to leave instead of hanging out longer than what would be considered polite.

Considering there was no wine.
